I spent a few weeks in Iceland this summer so I’m making some things inspired by the experiences I had while there. The Icelandic Redwing birds are a very common songbird in Iceland with a beautiful song. I recorded one at night outside our Airbnb and this hat includes a small mp3 player hidden inside playing this recording. Spring has arrived here at the studio and we have received the most incredible gift in that a cardinal chose to make her nest in the rose bush right outside the studio window! As soon as we saw her lay eggs we stopped opening the curtains and started using a paper roll to take little peeps so we wouldn't scare her away. Earlier this week her eggs hatched and now we have 4 little birds being raised right outside the window. We have been lucky enough to watch both the mother and father feed and tend to their babies and it has been such an incredible thing to watch and enjoy every day. This month’s favorite dame is the fantastic artist/illustrator/painter of cute animals, Diana Teeter @dianateeterart . Her booth was near mine a few years ago at NY ComicCon and I was immediately drawn in by her super cute art. I noticed that one of the paintings had a witch hat similar to the ones I make. It turns out she had used pictures of my hats to inspire her! I of course bought every painting or print she had that sported a witch or wizard hat and now they are all over my studio! My latest acquisition is a little painting of a moth snacking on the very hat that I made for Diana.
